Why Bamboo is best from a Sustainability Perspective

Our eco-friendly card range is one way that businesses can be more sustainable – but what is the most sustainable of the materials on offer?

As the fastest growing plant on earth, Bamboo leads the way in terms of sustainability.

With the ability to grow full size in 3-4 months, bamboo rapidly outpaces standard trees that can take over 30 years to grow. It also requires little maintenance and has no need for chemicals when harvesting, meaning the growth of bamboo is completely natural.

So if you're looking for the most sustainable option, our bamboo cards are right at the top of the tree and are sourced from an FSC-certified supplier.

The Green Steel
Branded “green steel” due to its versatility and strength, bamboo has a tensile strength of approximately 28,000 pounds per square inch, which makes it 5,000 times stronger than steel according to Interesting Engineering.

That makes our eco-friendly cards, technically, stronger than steel – how’s that for a sales pitch? 🤷‍♂️

Known as a natural carbon sink, bamboo absorbs two times more carbon dioxide than trees, whilst generating up to 35% more oxygen than most plants and trees.

This makes bamboo forests a hugely positive influence on the environment and the endangered species that call bamboo forests a home, including the giant pandas who rely solely on bamboo.

Bamboo plants feature extremely strong roots within the ground that offers soil and land stability, with the opportunity to restore any land that is vulnerable to landslides – which is crucial in countries who frequently encounter these problems such as China, Indonesia, Nepal and many more countries that sit nearby the Himalayas.

The fact that bamboo grows as quickly as 1.5 inches per hour means we are always going to have a sustainable option for your custom printed cards – whether that be ID cardsRFID cards or cloakroom tags.

A durable material, bamboo fibres contain a substance named “bamboo kun” – this gives bamboo natural antibacterial properties that prevents bacteria growth, which is an added bonus.
