Motability Scheme: Card Print and Personalisation, Fulfilment and Mailing
We deliver a branded RFID electric vehicle charging card with variable data on a personalised carrier letter directly to Motability Scheme customers through our printing, fulfilment and mailing service.
About Motability Operations and the Motability Scheme
Motability Operations runs the Motability Scheme, where people receiving a qualifying disability allowance can choose to lease a vehicle as part of an all-inclusive leasing package.
Motability Operations is supporting its 815,000 disabled customers as the UK switches to electric vehicles (EVs), so they can remain mobile and independent. The company is investing in innovation to solve challenges for its customers and they needed to find a way to simplify paying for public charging.
Last year, the company launched ‘Motability Go Charge’ to provide an easy one-stop solution for accessing and paying for chargepoints across the UK. Now every Motability Scheme customer that chooses to lease an EV is sent a Motability Go Charge card, so charging on-the-go can be made a bit easier.
The app and charging card provide access to over 55,000 public chargers from over 30 different chargepoint providers.
The Requirement
Motability Operations wanted to provide a custom printed and personalised RFID EV Charge card mailing for each individual customer with details of how to activate their Go Charge card and access to the app. Every customer leasing an EV car is sent a pack with information on how to activate their card and get started.
The watchwords were efficiency and security: ensuring the charge card reached customers securely before their new car was delivered so there would be no delay in charging.
How it Works
This was a new project for Motability Operations, so we worked closely with their project team and the e-mobility service provider (EMSP) to develop the efficient workflow process for their specific needs. Efficiencies such as accuracy of matching card data, integrity of data and the capability to fulfil a growing number of packs as more Motability Scheme drivers opt for an EV vehicle. Rollout began initially as a small test pilot, which led onto a larger pilot. Both were successful, so Motability Operations then rolled this out to all their EV customers.

What's Involved in the Process
We manufacture bulk stock of branded RFID charge cards with a printed sequential number, ready for fulfilment. Motability Operations send us data into our secure web portal and we run scheduled batches and print on demand if required.
The card is then matched and attached to the corresponding personalised letter through our fulfilment machines, and any literature added before the envelope is sealed. The card UID (unique card identifier) is recorded and securely transmitted back to the Motability Operations system. A timestamp is recorded, showing successful matching and shipment date.
The card is then mailed directly to the individual card holder.
A shared web-based dashboard shows fulfilment dates and volumes for a real-time view.
Data is held for an agreed fixed period and then deleted according to our data handling protocols.
We fulfil thousands of Motability Go Charge EV cards every month.
