RFID Material Guide
PVC
Our regular PVC RFID cards are made from quality, durable plastic and are available with a Matt or Gloss finish. They are 760-820 microns, which is a bit thicker than a standard credit card to contain the chip.
Please note that the technology chip contained within the card is not recyclable or biodegradable.
Biodegradable PVC
Our Biodegradable PVC RFID cards contain an additive that means they will degrade and wear down in microbe rich environments such as biologically active landfill. In terms of print finish, you won’t notice much difference to a regular PVC card.
Please note that the technology chip contained within the card is not recyclable or biodegradable.
They are 820 microns, which is a bit thicker than a standard credit card to contain the chip.
100% Recycled PVC
Our 100% recycled PVC cards are made from 100% recycled plastic (R-PVC), with a 100% recycled film applied for durability. This post-consumer recycled PVC material is sifted, washed, sterilised and separated to remove contaminants, resulting in a quality material.
They are 820 microns, which is a bit thicker than a standard credit card to contain the chip.
Please note that the technology RFID chip contained within the card is not recyclable or biodegradable.
Bamboo and Wood
Our Wood RFID cards are available in Bamboo, Beech, Birch, Black Walnut and Cherry. They are sourced from an FSC-Certified supplier.
As wood and bamboo is a natural product, there will be differences in the grain and print finish/engraving between each card. This is what makes them unique.
The cards themselves will naturally degrade over time, however the chip within the cards is not recyclable.

Need help with your artwork?
We offer an art working service for £25. Add it to your basket and we’ll be in touch when your order comes through.
To help you prepare, we will need:

- A note of the colour(s) you want to use (Pantone or CMYK breakdowns) or a graphic to match to.
- A note of the font you want to use. If it’s a non-standard font, we’ll need a copy of this too.

Choosing the Right MIFARE® Card
Our printed MIFARE card options include:
- MIFARE Classic® 1K and 4K: for existing access control, membership and identification systems that require Classic technology.
- MIFARE Ultralight® C and EV1: commonly used for compatible ticketing systems, event passes and limited-use credentials.
- MIFARE DESFire® 4K: for compatible systems requiring advanced security features or multiple applications, including access control, identification and cashless services.
The chip family, generation, memory capacity and programming requirements must match your system. MIFARE technologies are not universally interchangeable, and security depends on the selected technology and system configuration.
Read our guide to the MIFARE family for help comparing the options.
For branded cards used with compatible charging systems, explore our RFID cards for EV charging.
Materials and Card Thickness
PVC, 100% recycled PVC and biodegradable PVC options are available for selected chip technologies.
PVC card thickness: 760–820 microns (0.76–0.82 mm).
Recycled-content and biodegradability descriptions apply to the PVC material, not the complete electronic card or its embedded RFID components.
Explore our wood RFID cards and recycled plastic card range, or contact us about the material and technology combination you need.
Printing and Programming
Full-colour printing on both sides is included. Printed names, numbers, barcodes and QR codes are different from data programmed into the RFID chip.
If your system requires encoded cards or a particular numbering format, please discuss this with us before ordering so we can confirm the requirements.
Card Fulfilment and Mailing
Need your personalised cards sent directly to members? Our card fulfilment and mailing service can help with card preparation and dispatch.

Custom Printed MIFARE® Card FAQs
Read our FAQs for questions about our Custom RFID Cards.
Which MIFARE card technology do I need?
Your card must match your existing reader and system. Check the chip family, generation, memory capacity and any programming requirements with your system provider before ordering. A shared frequency does not make different MIFARE technologies interchangeable.
Our MIFARE card guide explains the main differences between Classic®, Ultralight®, Plus® and DESFire®.
Do your printed MIFARE cards contain genuine NXP chips?
Yes. All custom printed MIFARE cards in this listing contain genuine NXP chips. The Card Network is a registered MIFARE® Partner.
Security features vary between MIFARE technologies and depend on how the card and system are configured.
Can I test a sample card before placing an order?
Yes. We recommend testing an appropriate sample on your system before ordering your printed cards.
Request a sample and tell us which cards, reader or system you currently use so we can help identify a suitable option.
Do MIFARE cards need programming before use?
Programming requirements depend on your system. Cards may need to be encoded or registered with your system before they work.
Printing your design onto the card is a separate process from programming its RFID chip. Please contact us before ordering to confirm any encoding, numbering or configuration requirements.
Can a Fudan card replace my existing MIFARE card?
Not automatically. Fudan is a separate chip manufacturer, and a Fudan card should not be assumed to replace any card in the MIFARE range.
Compatibility depends on the exact chip and your system’s requirements. Check with your system provider and test an appropriate sample before switching. The MIFARE cards supplied through this listing contain genuine NXP chips.
Can you print individual names, numbers, barcodes or QR codes?
Yes. We can personalise your MIFARE ID cards with individual names, staff or membership numbers, number ranges, barcodes and QR codes.
Details that change between cards are called variable data and are available at an additional cost. Please tell us what you need when ordering or requesting a quote.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Online orders start from 100 cards.
For a different quantity or a larger order, request a custom quote and tell us the technology, material and personalisation you require.
What materials and card thicknesses are available?
PVC, 100% recycled PVC and biodegradable PVC options are available for selected chip technologies. PVC card thickness ranges from 760–820 microns (0.76–0.82 mm).
Recycled-content and biodegradability descriptions apply to the PVC material, not the complete electronic card. For wood RFID cards, contact us to check the chip and material combination you need.
Should I choose a matt or gloss finish?
Matt provides a softer, less reflective appearance, while gloss gives a shiny finish.
The best choice depends on your design and preferred look. Ask about samples if you would like to compare the finishes before ordering.
Can you help with my card artwork?
Yes. An artwork service is available at an additional cost if you need help preparing your design.
If you are supplying your own artwork, use the artwork templates and guide provided on this page. We will send you a proof to approve before your cards are printed.
How long will my printed MIFARE cards take?
Turnaround depends on the material selected. Check the Turnaround Time section on this page for the current estimate.
Production times run from artwork approval, rather than the order date. If you have a particular deadline, please discuss it with us before placing your order.
