Fotodek® Magstripe Cards FAQs

Get answers to common questions about our Fotodek® premium blank magnetic-stripe cards.

What are Fotodek® magstripe cards used for?

Fotodek® magstripe cards can be printed and encoded to create membership cards, staff ID cards, loyalty cards, access cards and other cards used with a compatible magnetic-stripe system.

They have an imaging-grade surface designed to produce a high-quality finish when personalised using an ID card printer.

Should I choose HiCo or LoCo magstripe cards?

Choose the stripe type required by your existing reader, encoder or card system.

HiCo magnetic stripes are more resistant to accidental erasure and are generally better for cards that will be used regularly over a longer period.

LoCo magnetic stripes are easier to encode and are often used for shorter-term applications, including many hotel key-card systems.

If you are replacing existing cards, check their specification before ordering rather than relying on the colour of the stripe alone.

Are these Fotodek® cards supplied encoded?

No. The cards are supplied blank and unencoded. The magnetic stripe will need to be encoded with the information required by your system before it can be used.

Can I encode the cards using my ID card printer?

Only if your ID card printer includes a compatible magnetic-stripe encoder.

The encoder must support the HiCo or LoCo option you select. A standard card printer can print the card design but cannot write information to the stripe without the correct encoding module.

Can I print these cards using any ID card printer?

Fotodek® cards are a standard CR80 credit-card size and are suitable for printing with plastic ID card printers.

Printing and magnetic encoding are separate functions, so check whether your printer includes an encoder if you need to personalise and encode the cards in the same process.

Will these cards work with any magnetic-stripe reader?

Not necessarily. Your reader must support the selected HiCo or LoCo stripe, as well as the encoding format used by your system.

Check your reader, encoder and existing card specification before ordering. If you are uncertain, contact us with details of your equipment.
